  1. Maglite Serial Number Breakdown

The Firefly 800 high powered led bulb is an instant replacement for the incandescent bulb in any D cell maglite including the older style with no 'D' in the serial number. This does NOT fit Maglites that came from the factory with an LED such as ML300L.InstallTo install the Firefly 800 lumen dopin, start by unscrewing and removing the head of your Maglite flashlight. Next remove the factory reflector, bulb retaining ring and bulb from the switch tower (if you have the bi-pin bulb you can press down on the tower to eject the plastic bulb holder). Reinstall the bulb retaining ring. Next remove the bezel and lens from the top of the Maglite head. Insert the Firefly 800 lumen bulb into the head (if you have an older version of the light you may need remove the extra set of rings that is on the base of the Firefly fist so it will sit deeper in the head).

Place the lens over the dropin and thread the bezel back down until snug. Screw the head back on to the maglite until it is just 'snug' onto the body. How to use this bulb in any size Maglite.Reviews. Happy with my purchase! My old 4D Maglite was about to get tossed. Back in the day this thing was awesome. Not only was it a flashlight but also a skull crusher if needed. Flash forward (pun intended) to today where flashlights can light up a ball park and this thing is now barely a night light for my kids room. I decided to search the internet to try and find alternatives before throwing it in the recycle bin and came across this website.

I ordered the Firefly 800 lumen upgrade. At first, I thought it was a lot to spend, but all of the flashlights I looked at to replace the Maglite were more money.

The install was easy and when I turned it on (BOOM), my Maglite was now cool again. My son said it looked like daytime in his bedroom. Focusing the light stream no longer works but is not needed in my opinion as you get a focused beam in the center and a flood of light on the outside of that beam.

Maglite Serial Number Breakdown

As you click through the on/off button, it starts with the highest level beam and then goes to medium and then a low setting. Not sure I am a fan of this as I will mostly use the bright setting. All in all, money well spent. 2 out of 2 people found this review useful. Great Upgrade! The FireFly 800 Lumen Drop In blows away the cheaper LED upgrade emitters. It has 3 very well spaced mode levels with memory.

Maglite identification

It has great throw with decent spill. A good overall combination beam. I run mine in a 2 D Cell Maglite using the ASF 26650 Body Sleeve Kit, high temp glass lens, Silver Plated Copper Core Switch Tower Spring, & shorty tail cap spring with a bypass wire. With this setup it has great run time on high with no step downs in output. Unlike smaller 18650 flashlights it never gets hot, only warm. A very practical Maglite upgrade!

Conclusion: Matt Smith, The Maestro Of Maglites!. 1 out of 1 people found this review useful.

FireFly For 3D Mag.I bought the FireFly dropin is I guess you could call it LED upgrade for an old 3D Maglite that was an incan light. Big increase in light output, it's rated at 800 lm by ASF and it seems to look like it is, Matt at Adventure Sport says his upgrades are actual lumen rated, I don't have any way to measure output other than comparing lghts. I'm happy with lumen output and good to see 3 levels L-M-H, I do wish it was available with a warmer tint but it's not a very 'cool' tint either. It has mode memory which good but the negative for my with this dropin is the on time memory, the light mode must be on a mode for about 45 seconds before it stays (memorizes) the mode in use, almost making it a 'click to next mode' light which I really do not like, 1 second on time memory would really make this dropin so much better. Matt at AS seems trust worthy and build quality is very good.Nice upgrade, but pls fix memory. 1 out of 1 people found this review useful. Full Size D Mag Drop in Perfection!Been collecting lights since 1996 starting off with full size Mags.

Fast forward almost 21 years and I have tried near every full size Mag drop in during that time trying to get the most out of the big lights. This FireFly is amazing. The output to my eyes looks to be at or just above the output claim. The beam is STELLAR! It is so clean! Matt has one upped Malkoff with this one. I like it so much I am buying another.
